Favorite Things
Spencer is quickly leaving the newborn stage as he begins to discover new things he can do. Here are some of his latest feats:
He has found out how to get his hand to his mouth and loves sucking it, as you can see.

Even though he's still wiggly, he likes standing up and stretching out his legs.

And, to our amusement, he loves these cards with the stripes and checkerboard. A nurse gave them to us, telling us that babies like the contrast between the black and white. They really grab his attention for a long time and he gets excited and smiles at them.

Tummy time is getting better all the time.

And, of course, he likes playing with Daddy. His biggest grins are at people, rather than the camera, so that's the reason for the side shot.

Thanksgiving
We are so grateful that we got to go to Michigan for Thanksgiving! It was wonderful to see everyone there and to spend the holiday with family. Spencer certainly got lots of love and attention, and Daniel and I even got to slip out for a date Friday night!

Daniel was able to bless Spencer on Sunday, November 25 in the branch that he grew up in. Spencer was so quiet during the blessing and saved all the spit-up for later, during Sunday School, where he nailed Daniel. There was no warning: one moment he was peacefully sleeping and the next he spit up more than I've ever seen before! Daniel's suit is now at the dry cleaners.

With Great-Grandma Rinker, who made the blessing outfit for Daniel and his brothers to use for their blessings.

Giggles and Grins
What can I say? I just can't stop taking pictures of our irresistibly cute Spencer! Lately he has been much more interactive, especially directly after eating, and gives us more smiles as he looks at us and gets excited. Sometimes it's hard to get the camera in time because it's so fun to stay with him and enjoy his happy mood. But here are a few photos:

And I think he's getting better at using his hands to express himself:
Please, please Mommy, can't I stay up a little bit longer?

You wanna fight?

Happy Halloween!
We had a fun time on our first Halloween with Spencer. He was the only one festive enough to wear a costume, but we adults enjoyed a special Halloween menu for dinner and a few rounds of Clue. With only two trick-o-treaters who came to our door, we have lots of candy that we are struggling to get rid of :)
Spencer was very excited for his first holiday! Who wouldn't be with such a cute costume to wear? Thanks Grandma DeVocht!

The menu consisted of "cremation" ham, mashed "boo-tatoes," "may you rest in peas," and a yummy pumpkin cheesecake for dessert.

Spencer loves being with his Aunt Tamara, who has been able to stop by often this last month to see him and keep me company. We really are going to miss Tamara and Andy when they move. We've had a lot of good times with them this past year here in Utah, but we know they're eager to move on to bigger and better things in New York. Good luck!!!

One Week Birthday
Wow! Spencer is already one week old. The time in the hospital already seems so long ago. To celebrate, we had a little photo shoot this morning and he did a great job. I'm sure he will be moving around before I know it and then it will be a little more tricky to catch him with the camera. But we are enjoying this newborn stage and loving our happy son.

5 Days Old
Look at that smile!! He really has been a happy baby and doesn't have to do too much to get us to smile, but we couldn't believe we could catch such a smile on his face at 5 days old. Of course, he is probably just finding out how his facial muscles work, but it looks like he is getting down the right ones.

Stay tuned for a video clip of this happy baby ... (Daniel has to help me compress it first)

New Arrival!!
We are so happy to present Spencer Felix Jensen, born October 4 , 2007 at 10:08 pm. He was 8 lbs. 14 oz. and 20 1/2 inches. Our hearts are so full of joy with this precious little bundle now in our home. Mommy and Daddy are enjoying their new roles and are also greatly appreciating Grandma DeVocht's help. We are glad we can show off Spencer in pictures and can't wait for all of you to meet him in person.
